Care & Maintenance: Strawberry
Strawberry One Time (Fragaria Ananassa One Time) - Have you ever wanted a ground cover plant that produced berries? Well, look no farther than Fragaria ground cover grown from Strawberry seeds. Yes, Strawberry plants make a wonderful spreading ground cover and they have the additional benefit of producing delicious, edible fruit. Fragaria Strawberry plants are quite easy to grow. They are perennial, winter hardy, and will thrive in full sunshine, as long as the soil is fertile and well-drained. It is recommended to replace Strawberry plants every 3 - 4 years as their fruit production will diminish. Growing Fragaria is extra rewarding!
Sow Strawberry seeds from January to April indoors. Use quality seed starter mix, and small pots or starter trays. Sow the Fragaria seeds on the surface and only lightly cover. Keep the soil damp but not wet, and do not exclude light as this helps germination. Seal the starter tray or pots inside a plastic bag until after the Fragaria ground cover seeds germinate. When Strawberry seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into 3 inch pots, and grow them on in cooler conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. After all danger of frost has passed, harden the young Strawberry plants over a period of 7 - 10 days before planting outdoors in their permanent location. When well-established, Strawberry plants are excellent at sending out runners and spreading out.
