Care & Maintenance: Rock Rose
Rock Rose (Helianthemum Mutabile Mix) - This evergreen flowering plant produces a mixture of flower colors that include white, pink, rose, red and yellow. With the right conditions, the Rock Rose can be a prolific bloomer, and the entire bush may end up covered in the colorful one-inch flowers. Rock Rose blooms in summer and grows to about 6 - 12 inches tall and can spread 24 inches in width. Helianthemum nummularium grows best in full sun and well-drained soil. It does not require a lot of water to stay healthy looking. Rock Rose uses include border plantings, ground covers, and it is excellent in containers. Rock Rose is also known as Sun Rose.
Rock Rose seeds are easy and rewarding to grow. The ground cover seeds can be started in early spring directly outdoors after the danger of frost has passed. Rock Rose seeds can be sprinkled onto the soil surface and should be gently pressed into the soil. Keep the ground cover seeds moist until germination. After blooming, the plant should be cut back by 1/3. This keeps the plant attractive and neat, but it also encourages a second bloom. For colder regions, mulch for winter protection.
