Rhubarb Glaskins (Rheum Rhabarbarum Glaskins Perpetual) - This heirloom, non-gmo rhubarb plant has for generations enjoyed a well-deserved place in gardens across the country. The thick stalks are bitter-free, deep red at the base and shading to green toward the leaf. Started indoors very early, a light harvest is possible the first year with heavy yields each year thereafter. Hardy throughout the continental U.S., but prefers areas with cooler summer weather.
Glaskins Perpetual will produce rhubarb late in the season when other varieties are not good to eat. The 12 - 14 inch stalks are striped pink and soft green color and are sweeter than most other varieties. Many people consider Glaskins Perpetual to be the best all round rhubarb which though it doesn’t have the big bright pink stems of other varieties it more than makes up for it in flavour and long picking time.
